Several (weekly!) downpours of rain, gusty winds, and even hail. This has been an interesting year in the garden. I've got weeds growing that I've never seen grow in my garden before, such as the picture above (btw, I consider a weed to be anything I didn't plant, or anything I can't get rid of). I didn't plant this one, but I'm enjoying it.

The cooler temperatures have prolonged my artichoke harvest, and my four plants just can't stop spitting them out.

Some plants have flourished with the rain.

Some seem confused.....

Some are battered......

And some blooms are clinging for dear life.....

The poppies haven't stopped showing up, they keep spitting out more and more flowers, which means more and more seeds and poppy plants for next year.

The citrus tree's keep getting their blooms knocked off in the wind, and this particular tree, a Chandler pummelo, was not a huge fan of the hail.

But, the sun is out now. And if it decides to go away for a few days again, I'll just go hang out by the Ursinia 'Solar Fire' to heat up until the sun comes back again.
I am so jealous of your artichokes, an extended season of artichokes must be the silver lining to this weird weather we have been having.
ReplyDeleteThese are goregous pictures! Jackjack and I want to come hang out in your garden too. (Just so I can hear Princess Alex call him "boy" all the time, hee hee hee.)
ReplyDeletehow interesting that some of those blue weed lfowers have yellow centers and others white. The slightly frilly poppies you have are beautiful.
ReplyDeleteHoly Artichokes Batman! Carri -- that's a different variety from the first one I saw. You're having a much better year than we are -- that's fer sure...(by the way, I want starters off of the pictured variety as well).
ReplyDeleteThe blue flower is Anagallis monelli "Blue pimpernel" which I'm hoping will live as a perennial here, the color is to die for! The white flower is Linanthus grandiflorus. The poppy is a chiffon poppy, but I don't remember which kind- it's kinda cool because the leaves have pink and purple tones to them instead of just plain green. Most of the plants pictured here I got at Annie's Annuals in Richmond, CA.
ReplyDeleteYes Bill, my artichokes seem to all be looking different. Same exact seed source- but what appears to be two, maybe three, different varieties. I'm not complaining though- I like the variety! I just don't think I can call any of them Globe Artichokes- as none of them have looked like they are.
Those artichokes look awesome Carri! And my lemon blooms are having the same problem in the wind. We'll see what the eventual outcome is.
ReplyDeleteLove the "confused" flower!
